About the Millennium Center

A Landmark Rooted in Winston-Salem History

Steeped in history, the Millennium Center is one of downtown Winston-Salem’s most iconic buildings. Originally constructed in 1906 as the city’s U.S. Post Office, the grand Beaux-Arts structure later expanded to house federal courtrooms, FBI offices, U.S. Marshals, and other government agencies. Its marble walls, original brass postal boxes, and soaring architectural details still reflect the craftsmanship of its storied past.

From Federal Building to Modern Event Venue

After retiring from federal service in the early 1990s, the building sat waiting for someone with the vision to revive it. That moment came in 1994, when local entrepreneur Greg Carlyle purchased the property and began its transformation. Today, the Millennium Center spans 72,000 square feet across three floors, blending historic architecture with modern amenities to create one of North Carolina’s most distinctive full-service event venues.

Unique Spaces with Character and Craftsmanship

From the elegant ballroom and preserved historic courtroom to the dramatic Grand Lobby and intimate lower-level lounges, every space at the Millennium Center offers character, flexibility, and a strong sense of heritage. The building has even served as a filming location for major motion pictures and award-winning productions.

Meet Greg Carlyle: Owner, Visionary, and Host

A longtime Winston-Salem entrepreneur, Greg first made his mark with a popular downtown salon before expanding into the culinary and events world. His passion for service, design, and community inspired him to create a truly all-inclusive venue—one offering unforgettable spaces, in-house catering and bar service, event-planning support, and a seasoned team dedicated to exceptional experiences.

A Trusted Destination for Weddings and Events

Under Greg’s leadership, the Millennium Center has hosted thousands of weddings, corporate events, galas, and major non-profit fundraisers, becoming a trusted destination for celebrations in Winson-Salem. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a large-scale affair, our team is here to make the process seamless, stress-free, and inspired.

The reason I am rating the Millennium Center five stars is because I cannot add more stars to the review! The attention to detail and courtesy of the staff was noteworthy and set an example of excellence which every business should emulate. My heartfelt appreciation for Greg and Edie Carlyle (owners/operators) for their kindness, professionalism, and a job very well done. – Derek Dawson
